I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and were able to get out and enjoy your fresh air before the rain moved in Sunday afternoon. I was in Kansas City with my family at a soccer tournament for my youngest son this weekend. It was beautiful outside and great to get away for a couple of days. It was even better that he brought home a first place win!!
Reminder that this Friday is a half day attendance for students. Classes will dismiss at 12:30 on Friday October 2. This week is also Spirit Week for Homecoming. Monday: PJ day Tuesday: Future Career Day Wednesday: Western Wear Thursday: Dress in 80's attire Friday: Willard Wear Math: Last week we wrapped up additio and subtraction and moved in to multiplication. Many students are not fluent in their multiplication facts and this is going to start affecting their ability to be successful with math. I have highly encouraged them to work on their math facts and even sent home flash cards with them over the weekend. We are starting a multiplication challenge in the classroom on Monday and when they complete a level they will get to mark it off on the class list. When they complete all of their fact familiies they will have a celebration. Science: We started erosion last week and we will continue that topic this week. We have been looking at different means of erosion and what happens as different surfaces erode and the weathering process that contributes to it. Reading: We are reading Tiger Rising and really digging deep in to the text to analyze the characters. The students are then doing the same in their independent book to practice getting the most they can from the author as they read about their story. We are continuing to practice using our time wisely and really reading for meaning and understanding the whole time we are reading. Writing: Students have been drafting characters for their narrative stories. This week we will begin drafting scene by scene and really work on adding detail and dialogue to our stories. The students have some amazing ideas started and I am excited to see how they end up. Last week you should have received your childs DRA letter with their current reading level. If you have any questions about that level please don't hesitate to contact me. Have a wonderful week!
