What a wonderful first full week of 4th grade! I have really enjoyed getting into our routine. Please make sure you are signed up for Class DOJO so you can keep up with pictures and quick reminders of things happening in our classroom.
We started our first math topic this week and it is going really well. I sent home a parent resource page on Friday about our first math topic. You can also access that form here. Students will bring home practice pages and assignment pages almost daily. The assignment pages are not put in mastery connect but I will grade them so that you and your child will know how they are doing on those concepts. You will either see a M, NM, or R circled at the top of the page. If it is a M then your son/daughter is mastering those skills, NM means they are near mastery and just need a little more practice, and R means they are showing remediation for that topic. Again, the homework pages are not scored in mastery connect just a way to offer more communication for students and parents of where they stand. If you have questions about this please don't hesitate to contact me. Also on Friday, students brought home their first spelling list. We will take one spelling test a week on Fridays. If students score poorly they will retest those same words with me on the following Monday. This way they will have the weekend to study. This week we will begin our extra PE time with Coach F on Mondays. Please make sure students wear tennis shoes on Monday and Thursdays for PE. Just a reminder students will be out of school on Friday September 1 and Monday September 4 for Labor Day weekend. We will take our first math assessment over topic 1 on Thursday before the long weekend. Have a wonderful week!

We have had an amazing first week getting to know each other and building our classroom community. Today, the students participated in a Breakout Box where they were trying to get our year started successfully. They worked together and broke out with 7 minutes remaining. It was fun to watch them come together and celebrate their success.
We will be going outside on Monday to watch the solar eclipse. We had the special glasses donated by Dr. Jarvis here in Willard. I talked to the kids today about how important it is that they wear the glasses as instructed and take it seriously. I would appreciate it if you would mention it at home as well. This is a wonderful opportunity they have but I also want them to be safe during the process. Next week, we are going to start looking at The Leader In Me. The kids will be making a notebook to use during this section of our class time. I am asking that they bring in magazines, pictures, stickers, or anything they want that are of things that help them be a better person or leader. We will have some time at the first of the week to cut out objects to put on our folders. Reminder, t-shirt money is due by Friday for the Leader In Me Friday shirts. Please let me know if you need me to send home another order form. Students are bringing home their MAP scores from last year in their backpack. They were all really excited to see how they did. DOJO: We will start using Class DOJO on Monday to track behavior. Students will be bringing home a folder daily with their DOJO points in it. In order for students to receive their DOJO money for their positive points earned they have to get their folder signed at least one time during the week. This is just a way to help keep the kids accountable for showing their folder to you guys! I hope you have a wonderful weekend and thank you for sharing your kids with me! It was wonderful getting to meet all of you last night. I appreciate you coming up and taking the time to come and introduce yourself. I am excited to get to know each of you more as the year goes on. Several of you have already signed up for Class DOJO and that will be a great way to keep up with what is happening in our class. I will mention a few things to the class tomorrow about class routines and items I will need for them to bring in.
Snack: Our lunch time will begin at 12:05 so we will have a snack time in the morning that the kids are welcome to bring a snack in for. Please encourage them to bring a small healthy snack that they will be able to eat as they work at their seat. I am also going to ask that they don't bring candy for snack time. Photos: I want our classroom to feel comfortable for your students so I would love for them to bring in family pictures to hang around the room. This is completely optional but if they are interested I would love to put them up for them. I hope you have a great night! Don't forget Principal is going to be on Facebook Live tonight reading a night before school book. See you tomorrow morning! |
