I hope you all have enjoyed the beautiful weather this weekend and had an opportunity to get out in it.
Last week, students got their Unit 7 math tests back and had an opportunity to retest on the standard that was covered on that test. I was very happy with how well they did and the questions they asked as we went through it so that they could do better on their retest. Coming Up: Math- We started fractions on Friday and will continue to work through that topic. We started off looking at legos and how they easily represent fractions for us. If you have some legos around the house you should see if your student can explain fractions to you using them. :) Science- We completed an erosion experiment last week and will wrap up that topic this week with a short assessment over what they have learned. They have really liked the videos of erosion that we have looked at in class and the hands on activities. Writing- Last week students choose the famous Missourian that they would like to research for the informational writing piece. Next week, we will do an activity where they will be able to bring in some supplies such as felt, fabric, yarn, etc to create a 'flat stanley' of their famous Missourian. We will then display their writing and person in the hallway. I think the kids will enjoy this. They are already enjoying the research process and the cool facts they are learning. Reading- We are still focusing on Non-fiction and looking at different text structures such as cause and effect, problem and solution, and this week will move into compare and contrast. Events to know about: Friday Jan 26 - Tiger Pride Assembly at 2:30 Wednesday Feb 14 - Valentine's Party - More information will come home soon. Welcome Back!!
I hope everyone had a wonderful break and great time with your families. I had an exceptional time with my family and friends but I am excited to get back to the kids at school. This week we are going to be easing back into the daily routine and reviewing classroom and school expectations. Math - We are going to start a short unit on factors and multiples this week and it will wrap up at the end of next week. I think this unit will prove to be pretty easy for the students to catch on to. Science - We are going to move away from social studies for a little bit and start with some science for 3rd quarter. We will have several hands-on learning opportunities and I think the kids will enjoy them. Writing - We are moving away from persuasive writing in 3rd quarter into informational writing. Students will be given some opportunities to research different animals, landmarks, and famous people in this unit. Reading - We had some wonderful growth 1st semester with individual reading levels. I am anxious to see what additional growth we will see as the year continues. Upcoming dates: Monday Jan 8 - I will be out of town with my son for medical appointments so there will be a sub Monday Jan 15 - No school Friday Jan 26 - Tiger Pride at 2:30PM |
