Last week was a great week! Students are catching on to the new math lesson and doing well learing strategies to solve their problems. I finished DRA testing on Friday and will be emailing parents this week about what level your student is currently reading on. I was very happy with their progress.
This week.... Math- We will continue to wrap up Lesson 3 and we will spend Thursday and Friday reviewing for our math assessment. The math test will be taken over 2 days and will take place on Monday Oct 2 and Tuesday Oct 3. Spelling- New spelling lists were put in students boxes on Friday and should've been brought home. We are now on Unit 4 and they are doing a great job mastering their lists. Social Studies- Students have been working hard all last week researching their Native American tribe with their partner. This week they will work on their presentation and then create their tribe artifact. I will be meeting with them on Monday about what they are planning to make the materials they need. I have encouraged them to pick an artifcat that doesn't require them to purchase any supplies. After all, the Native Americans couldn't go to the store they had to find all their supplies on the land. Leader in Me- This week we will contine to study Habit 2- Begin with the end in mind. Last week, I showed the class a video from the Leader in Me program about leaving a legacy. I then posed the question to them, "How to you want students and staff to remember you when you go to the Intermediate School next year?" They made graphics of those words they wanted people to think about them and I put them into this video. This video will be displayed in the front hall for the week and I think the students will really take pride in sharing their project. Reading- We will start reading groups this week and students will be grouped with other students that share their same reading level. Tiger Pride- We will have our first Tiger Pride assembly this Friday Sept 29 at 2:30PM. Parents and family members are always welcome to attend. Our assemblies will look a little different this year as we take a Leader in Me approach. Just a heads up that I will be gone on Monday October 2 for meetings at District Office. I will notify the kids as it gets closer but I know they will do great with a sub. They are a great group of kids! It's going to be a FULL week!

Last week...
I was very happy with the results of the Lesson 2 math test. Students should have brought those home to you on Friday and their grades have been entered into Mastery Connect if you want to get in and see them. Students also wrapped up their Missouri Region projects and they turned out amazing! I could not have asked for anything more. They all worked together towards a common goal of filming information videos about their region, making a travelers brochure, and creating an online tool telling all about their region. Check out their finished project below. We wrapped up the week with a Breakout Box celebrating Dot Day. The kids worked well together towards the common goal of using clues to open 5 locks and break into the treasure box. This week.... We began Lesson 3 in math on Friday. This is a rather long unit and will take about 2 week to get through. We are not getting into multiplication and any extra practice students can get with their basic facts will be a huge help for them from here on out. We will spend time daily reviewing basic facts and working on their fluency. There are several games on my class website that would be great resources for them to use at home to practice. Unit 3 spelling lists will come home on Monday and students will take their pre-test Thursday and final test Friday. This week we will begin Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind. We will take our Missouri Region assessment on Tuesday. Thank you to everyone who sent in supplies last week for our Missouri region cookie activity. The class loved it and they did a great job! Have a great Sunday! Last week wrapped up well with a math lesson review day and kicking off research for our Missouri Region projects.
This week.... We are continuing to focus on Habit 1 of Leader in Me...Be Proactive. We are taking time to analyze ourselves and times when we can stop and think before responding in a reactive manner. We will begin DRA testing on Monday and it will likely continue for about 2 weeks until everyone has been tested. I hope everyone received my DOJO message this weekend about encouraging your child to pick up a book and read this weekend. I will let you know once we have completed testing. We are finishing up our lesson 2 math unit on Monday and will spend Tuesday reviewing for our assessment. Students will take their Lesson 2 assessment on Wednesday. They will bring home their review sheet on Tuesday that we go through together in class. The ones that they mark they got wrong as they worked individually would be good ones for them to review that evening. Many students are making small mistakes in basic addition or subtraction and it is causing them to miss the entire problem. So, we are working on taking our time and checking our work with inverse operations. Thank you to everyone that has sent in supplies for our cookie project. I think the students will really enjoy that as a review activity before our Missouri Region map assessment on Friday. I divided the students up in groups last week so that they will now become an expert of their region and will report on it to the class through technology and green screen videos. Be watching for their project to be posted to the class website once it is finished. Unit 2 spelling list came home with students on Friday and they will pretest over it on Thursday. It's going to be a busy week but a great one to be in 4th grade! Please email me if you have any questions! I hope everyone had a wonderful 4 day weekend! I know I sure enjoyed the time with my family.
Last Thursday our class took their first math assessment and I am so pleased to tell you that the class did GREAT!! I was so happy with their success and hard work. Students will be bringing home their math assessments Tuesday and those grades have been put in Mastery Connect if you want to log in and take a look. There are also a couple of map assignments from our social studies lesson that have scores entered in as well. This week, we are moving on into Lesson 2 for math. This lesson will take about 2 weeks and then we will be ready to assess their knowledge. We will also be moving on into learning about the Missouri regions this week. I have a fun class project that we will be splitting up in groups for next week. I think the class will enjoy it. We will be using technology to create a neat project that I will then share with you on the class blog. Tuesday, we will be heading to the library to do a Mystery Skype with Mrs. Hillenburg and a mystery school somewhere in the world. We are going to use the map skills that we learned last week to try and guess where our mystery school is located. It should be a fun activity. Be sure and ask your student about it this week and watch Class DOJO for some pictures. Reminder that fundraiser packets are due back Tuesday September 12. It's going to be a great week in 4th grade!! |
